West African Crowned Cranes

| These cranes are sociable and live in flocks
from 6 to twenty, though gatherings of more than 60 have been recorded.
It is sedentary, making no long migrations. It may spend hours standing
motionless on one leg. The crowned crane's courtship displays consist
of a succession of leaps, dance steps and mock takeoffs accompanied
by sonorous, discordant double-trumpet cries. |
