Power Figures, also known as fetishes, are generally
used to protect from evil spirits. Songwe power figures are distinguished
by the traditional horn embedded in the head, and the square jaw,
which is a Songwe characteristic. The figures are adorned with bits
of fur, raffia, nails, and beads to honor them. Some power figures
have a hollow cavity in the belly, where evil-warding items can
be placed.
