South Luangwa National Park
General
Overview
Nesting at the tail of the Great Rift Valley,
South Luangwa National Park is wild and remote and has a reputation
as one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in the world. The
concentration of game around the Luangawa river is among the most
intense in Africa.
Wildlife
Few areas in the world can boast such high
densities of wildlife. The park hosts over 14 different antelope
species: eland, bushbuck, sable, impala, kudu and hartebeest,
to name a few. The Thornicroft’s giraffe and Cookson’s wildebeest
are unique to the Luangwa Valley and the park is famous for it’s
daytime leopard sightings; lions and hyenas are also present.
Crocodiles, hippos, baboons, zebra and elephant are abundant.
